SAFETY AND LIMITS

oDaylight: Caver limits indicate that the natural daylight is always visible. Follow your guide along the permanent cavern line, which has been set within the boundaries of the daylight.

oPenetration: During cavern diving penetration is limited to 60m/200ft from the open water area. Never pass the “STOP” cavern limits signs without proper cave diver training.

oGuideline: Divers must follow their guide along a permanent, or temporary line lay by the guide, throughout the cavern dive. Lines start and finish in open water with direct access to the surface.

oLights: Each diver must carry at least one light. Guides carry at least two additional back-up lights. Point your light forward so that your guide can see your light, but never directly blinding them.

oRule of Thirds: Available air is divided into three – one third is used to go in; one third is used to exit; and one third is always kept in reserve.

oDivers: Maximum of four divers per guide is allowed. The minimum qualification is Open Water Diver certification.

oRestriction: Passing through restrictions is not allowed. This is where two divers cannot comfortably pass by each other.

oDecompression: Divers are not allowed to reach decompression. Remember to set your dive computers to FRESH water.

oDepth: The maximum depth of cavern dives is 21m/70ft. Deep dives like in Angelita, The Pit and La Laguna are not overhead environments, but do required Advanced Open Water certifications.
